Consumption of Time and Time Management

I have to admit that this year time has gone faster than ever before and quicker than I ever expected. I have enjoyed most of time, although I have had demanding months behind my back. Well, I still have my head above the waterline despite few dips in the cold water.

There have been difficult moments when I’ve been thinking that these studies are just beyond my comprehension. The modules during last spring were filled with numbers and calculations of issues whose existence was completely new territory to my understanding and knowledge. EMBA studies have exacted not only time, but also focusing on the whole entirety. It certainly has been a sense of occasion to pass a module.

So, how have I survived? I see a great similarity to practising good leadership. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. While everything seemed to be in order, I started to do concrete actions to manage time consumption before life would spin out of control. I started to prioritize, organize and delegate. This means cutting down on vacation, TV time and social life and basically many activities which act as a good counterbalance to work and studies. Still there are things that I am not ready cut down, like time with my kids, full 8 hours of sleep and sporting. Without those, I loose effectiveness and feel like I would have lost part of myself.

There are no other physicians in our EMBA group and I have to admit that a wish we had more case studies and examples from health care field. At the moment I am excited about business strategy project, which is made by a team and our team project is focused in medical field. It is a good feeling to have competence from previous career experience and I am more than ready to utilize it in this project. However, I have noticed that different industry fields have same methods, rules and regulations and how they function in the very same way after all.

After finishing Med School I learned that school gives you basic skills and tools and I had to do learn how to use the equipment. EMBA modules and study books give many tools to become a better leader. I can see myself again in a position standing in the beginning of a new career practising to use the equipment.

Yours,
Pippa
